Day 5…
Ephesians 6:10-18 (ESV)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints…
Spiritual Warfare: Battle in the Unseen Realm
The armor of God, it’s not just a cutesy play set for kids that comes with an awesome sword. It’s for our everyday life. But I think being in a culture that is pseudo-spiritual we lose sight of the war that we wage against demonic forces. And the truth is we need to be more cognizant of it than ever.
The enemy doesn’t attack what he already has, he seeks to keep them under control. Satan’s attacks are coordinated and intelligently crafted. He designs them for maximum impact, which means if you have a call to ministry on your life; you’re a target. When you fight a battle you always go for the leaders, without them the soldiers have no direction. The same goes for spiritual warfare as well.
When I wasn’t serving God, I lived a life of sin, but I never felt under attack like I did when I was serving Him. The moment I asked Jesus to forgive my sins and started back on the path towards my calling, I began being bombarded like never before. Satan wants nothing more than to bring down the men and women whose lives are dedicated in service to God. He will stop at nothing.
It would be depressing except for one thing… we have already won. Satan is fighting battles in a war that ended with Christ crucified and resurrected from the dead. He can fight on, but he cannot win. Remember our weapons, the Bible and prayer. Build yourselves up, that when the enemy comes against you, your spirit and your mind are prepared for battle, and confident in the victory that Jesus has already secured for you.
