I’m sitting here at my in-law’s kitchen table. It’s Thanksgiving Day and the normal hustle and bustle is happening. Stacy and her sister are busy in the kitchen, the sounds of the Detroit Thanksgiving parade coming from the living room. Is this Thanksgiving?
In a short while we will go to one of Stacy’s Aunts house, full of laughter, smiles, family catching up, and the smells of good food will fill the home. Is this Thanksgiving?
A day to be thankful. I’m thankful for my wife, family, friends, great coffee, good food, my jobs (one of them at least), and our church. Is this Thanksgiving?
All of these are pieces of Thanksgiving, but not the full puzzle. But on this day, a day specifically set aside to give thanks, for many of us it is the full meaning of Thanksgiving. But it can’t be all. This day cannot be reduced merely to atmosphere, food, family, and lists. Where’s the missing piece?
Psalm 107:1 ESV
Oh give thanks to the Lord , for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!
Give thanks to The Lord! Yes, be thankful for family, for food, for the roof over your head and everything else on your list (you know you have one!). But today, and everyday, give thanks to the Creator of the universe, the God who gave you life!
Why? Because He is good, And His love endures forever!
I am thankful to my God today. He never changes, in a world who’s love changes with the wind, His love, grace, and mercy remain steady, unwavering. And I am in desperate need of all three.
So stop, think, what is missing from your Thanksgiving?
